Rogers and Bell recently increased fees paid for cable packages that include TSN and Sportsnet by licensed establishments with capacity over 100 people. The target of the rate increase is sports bars, but the OCC and the thousands of other curling rinks across Canada that are licensed are unfairly getting caught up in this rate increase. It will cost us an extra $3,000-$5,000 a year. The OCC is not for-profit and is volunteer driven. Help us stop Bell and Rogers from gouging community curling clubs. Tell them to cancel the increase in cable fees to our crinks. We aren't sports bars. These fees hurt and aren't necessary. Please visit www.notasportsbar.ca. We need you to send emails and post to Twitter and Facebook about this campaign so that the cable companies and the government hear your concerns.

Curling Clubs are Not a Sports Bar

  • Life membership nominations wanted

As we announced at the Spring Meeting, the Board is looking for nominations for life membership. Since the meeting, we have updated the policy to make it simpler and clearer.

If you know a member who meets the criteria below and you think is worthy of the honour, please forward your nomination to Dalal at manager@ottawacurlingclub.com

We will award life membership to a small number of worthy nominees at our opening celebration in September. Please get your nominations in soon and, preferably, no later than the start of September.

    New OCC Life Member Policy
Life Membership is the club's recognition of a member's sustained and exemplary contributions to the Ottawa Curling Club. It is awarded by discretion of the board to active members in good standing that have long tenure and who are easily recognizable as having made these extraordinary contributions to the club through volunteering, representing the club in competition, or being active in the club's community.

    Board nominations

We are also accepting nominations for the board. They must be received in writing at the club by August 25, 2017. Two members in good standing can nominate another member in good standing. The nomination must be signed by all three and the nominee must agree to stand for election and serve a term of two or possibly three years.
