For the first time in many years our Club Champions come from a league other than the Wednesday Cash League. Giving Layne Noble's squad full value in the final, Mike McLean's Thursday Men's League team came out on top. This gritty young Junior team are also Champions of the Thursday Men's League and re-enforces the competitiveness of the club and the Junior Curlers at the OCC.

There will be a reception for him at the club on Saturday, April 26
from 11 am. to 2 pm.
Come and join us as we celebrate with him. And of course don't forget about
the Gordie Perry Bonspiel,
the most fun under one roof!
The annual Roy Blair Bonspiel is quickly approaching. Sign up sheets are posted at the chalk board in the club or email the club manager. The Roy Blair Bonspiel is a great opportunity to participate in a fun bonspiel and meet many other members. The format is a 3 game 6 end points 'spiel with the highest three game winner be declared the champion. Doug Johnston's teams have won the men's event 2 years running - no pressure on him to continue the streak.
The three events are mixed, ladies and mens. There is a draft to determine teams on April 1 @ 8:30 pm with calcutta to follow.
Some of the celebrity skips already confirmed: John Steski, Doug Johnston, Jean-Michel Menard, Joelle Sabourin, Annie Lemay - all having participated in our National Championships.

We would like to thank all the OCC Members, specifically the Saturday Night Mixed Teams, for their understanding and cooperation in using the upstairs lounge. These large parties represent a great opportunity for additional revenue and seem to really impact our Mixed curlers at this time of the year.
Please Note: Saturday December 14 (Evening) - Kitchen will be closed due to large catered function.
Reminder: There will be mixed curling on the weekend of Fri Dec 20th and Sat Dec 21st.
The conveners ask that all scores for this draw be posted on the club bulletin boards by 10:00pm on Saturday the 14th so as to allow for the creation of the new schedule and the posting of it for Sunday the 15th. Those scores not entered into the results sheet will not be counted.
The Cowan Wright Beauchamp came a close on Monday night, with the finals held at the Rideau curling club. In the Mens division, Glen Howard's rink defeated local favourite John Morris, 7-5. The Ladies final was won by Janet Brow, defeating Marie-France Larouche 5-3. The senior event was won by Dave Van Dine's team, who knocked off Carl German's rink in an offenisve game 9-7. The Ottawa Curling Club would like to thank all the volunteers that kept the club up and running over the weekend, making this years Beauchamp another success. For more information about the finals check the The Championships home page.
Saturday
October 26th the Club will be throwing a Halloween party, so come down to the
club and make a little mischief.
A D.J. will liven up the crowd and provide a little dancing inspiration to keep the night rockin'.
Hope to see lots of you there Saturday night, even if your curling at the Hylands OVCT event, we'll be waiting for you.
Congratulations to the Charette team for winning the Parliament Cup this past Thanksgiving Weekend. They came up against Howard Rajala in the final on Monday and proved victorious! The winner of the Parliament Cup receives an invitation to compete in the upcoming Cowan Wright Beauchamp "The Championships" Nov. 8th-11th. For draw and results of other OVCT events visit their web site and see how OCC teams do over the season.
The Ottawa has a new ice-maker, and his name is Brent Kirkham. Brent comes to us with 9 years ice-making experience for the Woodstock and Perth Curling Clubs.
Brent's love of the game of curling is what drew him to ice-making. As a curler he wanted to understand better the surface upon which the game is played. So he took the Level 1 ice-makers course. He has now completed Level 3 as well as Level 2 in coaching. A carpenter by trade, he made the change from designing and building restaurants and retail stores to ice-making and hasn't looked back since.
Brent is looking forward to his return to the city of Ottawa, and especially to making ice for the Ottawa Curling Club. He is no stranger to this town, having lived here before. He is looking forward to expanding his coaching skills, previously having enjoyed coaching all ages. He is an accomplished curler himself, having won the City of Ottawa.
Welcome Brent. We are very happy to have you here in Ottawa.
**Please note thanks to the warm weather, the ice will not be ready Sept 9. Sorry for the inconvenience. **
We start
off the season with the Annual General Meeting, Tuesday, September 10,
2002 starting at 7pm.
The next event on the calendar is the Cash League Team meeting, Wednesday, September 11, 2002.
Then the fun starts. We open the season with a Wine & Cheese party, Friday September, 13, 2002.
We round off September with an Instruction Clinic on Saturday, September 14, 2002.
