Strategic Business PlanThe complete 2007 Strategic Action Plan is available in Adobe PDF format. The following is the Executive summary.
The Ottawa Curling Club (OCC) is located downtown at the corner of O’Connor and Catherine streets in the shadow of the Queensway. It was established in 1851 and is the oldest curling club in the area. The OCC has been at its present location since 1916 and has a reputation as a welcoming club with good services, excellent curling ice and a friendly host of bonspiels and social events. The Ottawa Curling Club is a member-owned-and-operated club. The Club is managed by an elected Board of Directors and has a full-time professional manager, a contracted ice maker and paid staff for both bar and kitchen. But the essence of its reputation as “the place to curl in Ottawa” lies in its strong and faithful core of volunteers. For the past several years, the OCC has had fully-subscribed prime time (weeknight evening) leagues. It has also managed to maintain a stable financial position. The Board of Directors recognizes the need to be pro-active in today’s rapidly-changing climate in order to ensure the future viability of the Club. The first OCC Strategic Business Plan was prepared in October 1997 and is updated annually. The Process: Overall Performance Measurement regarding progress in achieving the strategies, objectives and goals of the Business Plan will be the responsibility of the Board of Directors. The chart format used to present the goals, objectives and strategies includes a “status” column to facilitate this process. Each of the strategies will be assigned to an appropriate person or delegate, whether Board member, OCC staff or Club member. Ongoing monitoring of the work will be reported to the Board in a time frame suitable to the strategy. Club members, who have responsibility for the monitoring of a strategy, will liaise with the Board through the Director who is responsible for Strategic Planning. With monthly Board meetings, updates can be available on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual basis. An annual accounting of the status of all strategies will be the responsibility of the Director in charge of Strategic Planning and will be presented to the Board prior to presentation to the membership at the Spring Member Meeting. Overall monitoring of the plan will be done by this Director, who will take suggestions for further work or changes and revisions to the Board. Communication to and from the membership, the Board and our volunteers is vital to the success of achieving progress on the stated goals. Ongoing updates and highlights will be incorporated into the OCC’s communication with the membership. The 2007 OCC Strategic Business Plan which follows is the end result. It was prepared for presentation to the Board of Directors in February 2007, and to the membership at the April 2007 Spring Semi-Annual Meeting. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
